Product development requires multiple pieces to fit together perfectly. That’s why finding the right project management software is crucial.
Choosing the wrong project management tool can be costly, especially for small businesses with fewer resources.
My name is AJ and I own a digital agency. So not only do I know digital, but I also know owning and operating a business.
When it came time to choose a project management tool for our agency, Monday Dev was an obvious choice.
For this review, the Small Business Bonfire (SBB) product development team and I tested out Monday Dev internally for a six-month period so you don’t have to! We put it through its paces and found it to be a perfect solution for managing projects overall.
Let’s get into the weeds!

Who Is Monday Dev Best Suited For?
Monday Dev is an ideal project management tool for companies and organizations that are looking to streamline workflows and enhance productivity.
With features like customizable dashboards, automated notifications, and time tracking, this product makes it easy for teams to stay organized and focused on their goals.
It’s a great choice for businesses of any size, from small startups to large enterprises, and can be personalized to fit the specific needs of each organization.
The platform was particularly well-suited for our team that works remotely, as it allowed everyone to collaborate and communicate seamlessly regardless of location or timezone.
Who Is Monday Dev Not Suited For?
While Monday Dev is a great platform for product development and project management, it might not be the best fit for everyone.
If your team size is quite small, and you only need basic project management features, it might not be worth investing in this platform, as users would have to scale up their plan to gain access to this product.
During our review, we noticed that the only product that seemed to come with Monday’s free forever plan was its Work Management.
That being said, Monday Dev was still an excellent option for our agency which needed a simple and effective project management tool to efficiently manage projects.
Monday Dev Pricing: How Much Does It Cost?
This product offers competitive pricing at annual and monthly rates for access to the features included with this development tool.
Here are the four annual plans it provides users:
- Basic Plan: $9 per seat a month
- Standard Plan: $12 per seat a month
- Pro Plan: $20 per seat a month
- Enterprise Plan: Custom pricing
It also has a 14-day free trial for those who want to try out the product before deciding.
To use this platform, our team signed up for the annual Pro Plan on Monday at $16 for 3 seats per month for this review.
How Does Monday Dev Pricing Compare?
When it comes to project management software, Monday Dev’s pricing structure is quite flexible compared to other project tools available.
For example, we noticed that PipeDrive’s pricing plans were a bit more expensive than Monday Dev, as its basic plan costs $14.90 per user a month.
Additionally, PipeDrive doesn’t offer a free plan for users, making it more restrictive for some small businesses.
However, both project management platforms provide a 14-day free trial of their services, but Monday Dev is by far the more affordable choice.
Monday Dev Pricing Tips
If you’re looking to maximize your return on investment with Monday Dev, then we have some awesome pricing tips and tricks for you.
Let’s take a closer look at the different ways we found users can save!
Monday Dev Key Features
As our go-to tool for product development, Monday Dev has everything you need to manage tasks and projects with ease.
This product provided the SBB team with a powerful dashboard that allowed us to get an overview of our project progress.
It also made it easy for our team to create custom boards, task templates, kanban boards, Gantt charts, and more.
Some other features the platform includes are custom automations and integrations with popular cloud-based services such as Dropbox, Slack, Trello, Google Calendar, and many others.
Let’s go over some of our favorite features while using Monday Dev!
For starters, let's define what sprints are in relation to project management.
A sprint is a timed period during which a development team works to complete tasks for a specific project. It helps track progress and deadlines, ensuring each task gets completed on time.
In our case, we used the Software Scrum Development board to organize our sprints by the individual tasks our team members needed to do in order to finish each project.
We also used the Sprint Management board to monitor the timeline for each sprint. This helped our product managers oversee the sprint progression to make sure everyone was on the same page about where our projects stand.
However, if anyone was falling behind, they could reach out to a coworker or manager to ask for assistance by posting an update.
Additionally, the SBB team observed our project epics with the Epic board.
An epic is a large collection of tasks combined within a sprint that makes up a larger project. It represents a project's main goals, helping teams plan out each step of their development process.
Throughout our testing, we created each epic based on the needs of our business and connected them to tasks in a sprint corresponding to a specific project.
Overall, our team found these features of customizable boards incredibly useful for our project management and product development processes. We recommend it to businesses of all sizes looking for a powerful and reliable tool to organize their projects and improve communication.
When working on multiple big projects, it is vital to keep track of any bugs during the process. That's where the Bugs Queue board comes in handy!
With Monday Dev, teams can create a separate board for bugs that arises and assign priority to each one.
Throughout our testing period, this feature assisted us with bug tracking on our essential tasks with minimal difficulty.
This helped our product managers address any issues quickly, so there was no disruption in the development process. We were also able to time how long it took to resolve each issue to make sure that all projects were finished on time.
If your business needs to keep watch for any major bugs throughout the project management process, then this bug-tracking template is perfect for you!
Monday Dev also gives users the ability to plan out their products according to their personal schedules.
The Product Roadmaps board helps managers and teams to visualize projects over time easily all in one place. This template includes two separate boards for project planning and setting goals.
In our case, we utilized this template to help us organize and track our project plans and the overall goals required for completing them.
We were able to set the status and priority for both boards, as well as set task dependencies for our project plans to make sure everything was done in order and on time.
Additionally, our team was also able to oversee the progress of our plans and goals by tracking them with project timelines and goal percentages.
Overall, we found this to be one of the best project management tools on the market and highly recommend it for smaller and larger teams that need to execute projects on a strict schedule.
Monday Dev also offers time tracking through its Gantt chart features.
This timeline view is used to visualize where development teams are in completing a specific project.
Each board on Monday Dev can be customized with a Gantt chart to help teams map out their project timelines easily and efficiently.
In this instance, the SBB team used this chart view in our Epics Management board to make sure no one fell behind on their deadlines.
Using Gantt charts was a great way for us to ensure that our projects were staying on track and that everyone was aware of their responsibilities.
We encourage teams of any size to use this chart if they work on many different projects simultaneously.
Another one of the multiple project views that can be added on Monday Dev is a calendar.
For us, we used calendar views to keep track of the projects we were working on each month. This helped our team manage and prioritize their time effectively.
The calendar is a perfect way for businesses to stay organized and streamline their workflow with ease.
Lastly, Monday Dev provides an Automations Center where users can choose from premade templates or create their own custom automation.
The SBB team was able to make different automation with notifications when certain milestones occurred.
We were also able to easily keep track of all of our current custom automation with the Board Automations function, making it simple to edit or remove automation we no longer needed.
The automation feature is a great way to minimize repetitive tasks that might otherwise slow down team productivity.
What are the Limitations of Monday Dev?
During our review, the SBB team noticed some limitations while using Monday Dev we thought businesses should be aware of.
For starters, the Monday Dev platform is only available for users who are on higher-tiered plans.
This means features like advanced reporting, custom integrations, and data management don’t come with the Basic plan, which can be limiting for some businesses.
If your team requires the features included with this product, we recommend trying the 14-day free trial to evaluate its usefulness toward your business before purchasing.
What Sets Monday Dev Apart from the Competition?
When it comes to project management tools, Monday Dev stands out from the crowd for several reasons.
First off, it has a much more intuitive and user-friendly interface than many of its competitors, including Jira. This makes it easier for teams of all sizes and skill levels to adopt and use the product effectively.
It also offers a wider range of customization options, which allowed our team to tailor the platform to better suit their specific workflows and requirements.
Additionally, this tool provides a more flexible pricing model than Jira and other project management software, which is a huge advantage for smaller teams or companies on a tight budget.
Overall, Monday Dev’s focus on simplicity, flexibility, and affordability makes it a top choice for teams who want a powerful tool for product development that’s also easy to use and cost-effective.

Monday Dev Customer Service & Support Review
If you ever run into issues or have questions about how to use Monday Dev, its customer support is available to help.
You can contact their customer service by live chat, email, and phone. However, the live chat feature is only available Monday-Friday 2 AM to 6 PM EDT, and the phone option is for billing issues only.
When we had a question, we chose to reach out via email, which created a ticket with a wait time of up to 10 hours.
However, due to a high volume of requests, it might take a representative a little longer to get back to us.
If you need your questions answered sooner, Monday Dev has a detailed knowledge base with articles and videos for you to reference based on your issue.
Overall, while the customer service team was slow to respond, we found the knowledge base very helpful in resolving any problems we came across while using the platform.
