Social media is a significant part of every brand’s marketing efforts. There just isn’t a way, in 2016, to be serious about marketing and not factor in social media platforms. Fortunately, there are social media platforms out there for everyone.
Most offer specialty services to brands looking to engage with users. Personalization is important. Most platforms offer ways for you customize your profiles, including a social media header. Headers are good way to visually represent your brand and offer yet another way to showcase your brand. Since they are often displayed prominently on your profile page, picking the right one can be a bit of a challenge.
Get the Dimensions Right
Start by choosing an image that has the right dimensions. Each social media network has its own dimensions for its headers. The best place to get the information is directly from the horse’s mouth because these details often change. Many of the sites also provide templates so that you can make sure you get all of the important elements in the right places.
In general, wide shots work best. Higher resolutions will give you the best results. And remember that depending on what device your profile is being viewed on, some of the elements may change. Take all of these things into account.
Know Your Options
Logo
The single biggest symbol of your business is probably your logo. You can’t go wrong by using it in your header.
Products
It’s all about the product, right? Give it the star treatment. Glamour shots of your products can really hammer home what your brand is all about.
People
If you’re providing a service instead of a tangible product, consider showing your followers who is running your the show. Whether it’s key staff or just a big group picture, you can use your social media header to show them off.
Workspace
Is the space where you make your product special? Are you selling something that you create from scratch? Do you have a retail space you’re really proud of? These are all good reasons to use a photo of your workspace.
Promotion
What’s your next project, product, or event? If you want to give it the spotlight, your social media header is a great option.
Don’t Be Afraid to Change It Up
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you have to choose a social media header and you’re stuck with it. Some brands change their header a few times a month or whenever something comes up that makes them want to do it. So, try one on for size and see how it goes over for you. If you don’t like it, you can always change it when you’re ready.
